Scott Pilgrim Synergych

After watching the trailer and the film poster for this film i think there are a number of similarities that match up. The first one would be the charters that is featured, we see in both the trailer, film and the poster the same character is used and along with this the same clothes have also been worn. Another element is the props, in the poster we see he has a guitar and in the trailer we also discover he is part of a band. Another element is the institution as both are the same. Another Major element is the colour scheme that has been used, we see in both the poster and the trailer as it matches.

These are some of the main elements that I have picked out after watching the film, trailer and the poster.

Enigma code

what is a enigma code?
A enigma code is a opening scene of a film. It is sometimes used to question and confuse the audience.  this can be done in a number of different ways, they can sometimes show a charatcter but not reveil the face or can show a shadow and not show the actual character or object. The purpose of this is to get the audience involved and to gt them thinking, and leaving a question in their mind so the film is still in thier memory. This is used at the begining of a film most of the time and could be connected with a cliff hanger which is also often used in films and both of theese are similar techniques used in films. An example of this is sdemonstrated in the Indiana Jones movie a blogged about earlier. It shows how for the most part of the start we are unable to fully distingush the charater.

Indiana jones movie poster

This is a poster from the movie Indiana Jones from 2003. This movie is adventurous and action packed movie and was a great hit at its time.
The colour scheme used on the poster shows it uses very autumn colours like deep reds and oranges and brown. The colours are also very outdoors and are the colours you would use for a film like this. It shows it goes with the whole Indiana jones theme also.
The clothing worn in the poster shows the character of Indiana Jones. He is wearing he signature film clothing which consists of a hat, the combat trousers and the shirt. The way the clothes are styled are very relaxed and suit the context of the film and poster well. The character is also holding a weapon which in this case is a whip. This is something you would expect the character to be holding.
The character on the cover is also looking directly at you. If you were viewing the poster you would feel really included as it is looking directly towards you.

The tittle of the film shows two different types of font colour, style and sizes. From this you can tell the main title is the ‘INDIANA JONES ARRIVES ON DVD’ this shows this is the main part you should read and that will attract your attention next to the ‘THE ADVENTURE OF’ the colours that are used in the title again follow the autumn theme and are like a sunset as it uses colours like oranges and yellows as is the rest of the poster.
All the text that is featured on the poster is all in capitals form the title and name to the credits and dates. This shows that the capitals are used to attract your attention and draw you towards the text. The text also really varies in size as we have a change nearly for every sentence or part of it.

Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones
Lighting
The lighting in the extract of the film we watched in class varied throughout. From the first minute of the film I noticed the colouring of the overall film was actually really dull and there was a really bland look to it. I think this was because the brightness and contrast of the exposure setting was set really low. I think this was done to go with the theme of the film which was to do with the ‘Wild West.’ Another thing I noticed was there were also many scenes which were shown to be in the dark. Because of this is become hard to see faces of the charters.
At many points of the film I noticed the use of the sun was used very precisely and in numerous parts of the film we saw the sun shining on the charter or object, towards the screen with left us viewing just an outline. I think this effect was used was very dramatic as we were at first unable to identify the character/object. I think this devise was used so that we were able to identify the characters by just their outline.  Another form of lighting that was used were the torches the characters were carrying. These torches were often used as a source of light in the dark situations and this gave us a different form of light opposed to the camera lighting and natural lighting from the sun.
The lighting then changed in the second part of the scene when it moved to the more modern part. We saw the brightness of the lighting increased slightly and everything was a bit clearer.
Costume
The clothing of all the charters in the scene I saw was all really the same. We saw in the first part of the scene the characters were wearing traditional ‘Indiana Jones’ clothing which consisted of neutral colours like beige and browns and the hat you would expect them to wear, so the style and colours of the clothes wear very ‘outdoors’  and the clothing was appropriate for the location and the situation they were in
In the second part we saw we moved to the more modern part and the clothing of the characters there was really different. Again the clothing was in junction with the time and place and modern clothing was worn by the characters.
Camera angles
There are many camera angles in the clip we saw. There was a large use of camera shots taken from below. I think these are really good as you get to see a good viewing of everything. However we saw there were barely any shots taken from above. Through most of the scenes the camera angle stays constant and the same which I think is good as it doesn’t confuse the audience and it docent have an overload of effects used.
We also see many shots that are taken from behind. This is a type of shot I also  like as it seems like we are behind the character we get to experience what exactly he is going through.
The pace is also constant at many scenes and we see as the tension rises the pace speeds up and if they are going slow, the pace is there to match it.
Sounds
Throughout the clip we see that there are always sounds playing in the background. For most of it there are nature sounds of like birds and animals playing, but only for the part we are in the outdoor setting. As soon as we switch to indoors there are no non diegetic sounds playing.  When there are any diegetic sounds the volume of the sounds and sound effects decrease.
The pace of the music again speeds up at any point of tension and then again slows down when there are not important or tension parts of the film.
